Part I:
The writing process for this particular project proved to much more difficult than I had previously imagined. I spent a full three days simply researching, annotating, and trying to simply comprehend what the complex research articles and journals were about. I initially used Google Scholar to find all of my resources, but ended up stopping use it because I found myself continuously clicking farther and farther back into more obscure pages, which did not have any relevant articles to my topic. I used a very resourceful item, called Ask a Librarian, which involved me talking to a librarian from the San Francisco Bay Area through text chat in real time. She helped me find a plethora of resources that I could use for my research topic and even found an article for me about pig cognition.
As of now, the current draft has a solid introduction and conclusion because it presents a good amount of questions that leaves the reader pondering about my advocacy project. The body paragraphs clearly explain what the studies are about and the introduction makes it very clear how I organized my essay, which was done by a certain topic levels. The weaknesses definitely are a lack of transitions between paragraphs, a convincing tone, visual element, and less citing than a professional academic literature review.
The main priorities I should focus on for the next revision is making a better transition between each paragraph so that the subject matter makes more sense. Because each paragraph is simply a summary of each study I found, there is little "conversation" between each author. I will add more sentences that make this dialogue more prominent. I also need to find a visual graphic that explains my thoughts as well.
The most challenging thing was organizing the body paragraphs because it is hard to organize what is the most effective way of conveying your ideas. In addition, coming up with an interesting introduction that would clearly state the thesis and include the fact that this was a review of scientific literature was difficult in that there were so many elements to consider writing. I overcame this by first writing my body paragraphs and writing my introduction later.
Skimming articles and highlighting key words was the most helpful tool I utilized during this process because I found more relevant articles to include within my essay.
The farm animal protection campaign, created by Animal Charity Evaluators and the Humane Society of the United States, was a campaign that was ongoing since nearly a decade ago. I learned that this something that was not seen nowadays, given that social media was not as prominent ten years before and mainly advertised their website as a form of campaigning. I still learned that strong organization, appealing infographics, and a passionate attitude sustained this campaign.
